SpiderCage Therapy

It’s not nearly as scary as it sounds! In fact, our kids LOVE the SpiderCage. Although it’s hard work, exercising in the SpiderCage pays off quickly.

The SpiderCage is a three-sided wire mesh device that enables the client to perform balance and strengthening exercise with proper positioning and alignment. Because our clients are so well supported, they can safely, independently, and effectively practice transition techniques and strengthening exercises in a dynamic environment. Our clients get to experience the sensation and movement patterns of jumping, walking, and even running while they are supported in the SpiderCage.

NAPA Centre therapists utilise the SpiderCage to:

  • Help clients compensate their movements when performing exercises by using other parts of their body.
  • Encourage clients to participate in body weight supported functional and strengthening exercises with added security, thereby decreasing the physical contact from therapists.
  • Provide additional support to develop confidence and independence.
  • Allow clients to experience dynamic balance activities such as transitioning from sitting to quadruped, quadruped to kneeling, and transition all the way to standing with the assistance of bungee cords attached to the clients from four angles.
  • Build strength, increase balance, and more importantly, to increase their self-confidence so that they can do more challenging activities!
