Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurobehavioral childhood disorders often lasting into adolescence and adulthood.
About 9% of American children between 13-18 years are affected, with boys more at risk than girls. Studies show that more and more children are being diagnosed with ADHD, but it is unclear why. Scientists have yet to find a direct cause for ADHD, but current studies show that genetics play an important role (nimh.nih.gov).
Inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity are the key behavioral signs of ADHD. It’s normal for all children to behave in these ways, but for children who have ADHD, these behaviors occur more often and are more severe (nimh.nih.gov).
Below is a great infographic describing the different types of ADHD, the symptoms, and suggestions for treatments.
